Fr. Alejandro Crosthwaite, OP Welcoming Speech to the 2009 Angelicum Alumni Achievement Award Dinner
Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Fratelli e sorelle tutti:
Buona sera! My name is Fr. Alejandro Crosthwaite. As Head of the Angelicum's Public Relations Office I am pleased to extend to you tonight a heart-felt thank you and cordial welcome to the First Annual Angelicum Alumni Achievement Medal Award Dinner honoring His Eminence John Patrick Cardinal Foley, Grand Master of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem and Alumnus of this Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, known familiarly as the "Angelicum." His Eminence received his doctorate from our Faculty of Philosophy in 1965.
I especially want to thank His Eminence for accepting this award and for honoring us with his ever-joyful presence tonight, and I am happy to welcome as well as his special guests Mr. & Mrs. Spiegel and Ms. Marjorie Weeke. I would particularly like to welcome the officials of the Grand Magisterium of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre for accompanying His Eminence and us on this auspicious occasion. We are grateful for the presence of the Lieutenants and members of the Order's U.S. Northwestern, Northeastern and Eastern Lieutenancies for joining us tonight despite the distances and economic recession. To the representatives of the North American College and John Cabot University, a warm welcome. Agli invitati speciali del Dottor Giuseppe Piratino ed amici dell'Angelicum, benvenuti! Thank you, representatives of the Angelicum's administration, faculty, staff and students, especially the Angelicum choir and its director, Fr. Max Cappabianca, for taking time from your busy schedules and cutting short your Easter break for this event. To all, benvenuti e grazie mille per la vostra presenza.
The Angelicum Alumni Achievement Medal Award is the University’s most prestigious award reserved for alumni of the Angelicum who have distinguished themselves by serving the Church's mission in exceptional ways. Tonight's honoree truly exemplifies the University’s motto, Caritas veritatis —The Charity of Truth— and thus we salute tonight His Eminence's tireless dedication to the founding ideals and values which continue to inspire the Angelicum's community today.
