Fr. Ragheed Ganni, Angelicum Martyr

Fr. Ragheed Aziz Ganni came from Nineveh, in the north of Iraq.  He was born on January 20th, 1972.  He grew up in the city of Mosul.  He received his First Holy Communion on May 1, 1982.  In 1993 he graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from Mosul University.  He travelled to Rome in 1996 and lived at the Irish College.  He studied theology at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas from 1996-2003.  He earned a Licentiate in ecumenical theology in 2003.  He was ordained in the Chaldean Rite of the Catholic Church in Rome in 2001.  In 2003 he returned to Iraq to work as a parish priest in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Mosul.  Fr. Ragheed was martyred after Mass on Suday, June 3, 2007.  He was killed with three of his sub-deacons.  Fr. Ragheed is the first Catholic priest to have been killed in Iraq since 2003.

Your servant and priest, Fr. Ragheed Ganni, was given as a gift to Your faithful, and by Your grace, was found worthy to endure a martyr's death. I beseech You, Lord, to grant this petition through the intercession of Your beloved martyr.
